Hansen was first informed by doctors the dire news in 2012 that unfortunately his colorectal cancer had spread to his lungs, making him terminally ill and was given just a few more months to live. His body suffering from terminal cancer, Hansen decided to seek chemotherapy treatment and tried to live one day at a time. He continued to play his favorite game, poker. His last cash was back in March when he joined in the €800 Norwegian Open sponsored by partypoker in Dublin, Ireland and finished 98th place.

Throughout his poker career, Hansen won two WSOP bracelets. The first he earned back in 1988 when he emerged as the winner out of 78 contenders to win the $5,000 Seven Card Stud event. His second was in 2002 when he topped the $1,500 No-Limit Deuce to Seven event. His total live earnings were $2,949,644 according to the Hendonmob.

Also, he was a successful and respected online poker player. Back in 2012, he was a winner of the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker title, dominating the $320 Seven Card Stud event. Six months after that, he snagged a Spring Championship of Online Poker title after winning the $2,100 Seven Card Stud event.

Many in the poker community expressed their heartfelt messages on Thor Hansen's passing through social media.

This is part of every man's life and when someone dies, those who knew him must to send condolence messages or to speak directly with the deceased's family.
The new method of sending condolence is very good ( internet ) and Professional players who sent condolences proceeds correctly as a sign of respect.
Condolence for this player's family.

Not hear about this guy anything, but it is.i think because he not plays in television shows or is very big money player. All people die one day or another, this is not very young time, when people die when 30 or 40 it is too young

the godfather of Norwegian poker is a very cool definition ... but I have not heard anything about this man .... apparently he was playing then when I was not interested in online poker .... Due to his age, it is quite possible .... and of course a terrible cancer disease ... Condolences to all who have a relationship

This is an incredibly sad story and my condolences go out to his family and friends. I have watched Thor playing many times over the years on the t.v. and he always came across as a very good player but, more importantly, a gentleman as well

Rest in peace. Never heard of him, never knew about him, but he still lived a full life and reached seventy so it's okay. One thing others me though how in the hell possible that the €800 Norwegian Open (sponsored by partypoker) was held in Dublin, Ireland? Oslo wasn't available?

Famous in Las Vegas back in the 1990's. He played with the best players like Doyle Brunson and movie stars in Hollywood , Larry Flynt . And he staked Stu Ungar , the best player of them all. it can't get any better than that. He had so many stories to tell. RIP.

Rest in peace to this man, I remember watching him play in tournaments and other televised poker shows and WSOP tournaments like 10+ years ago. From what I remember he was a pretty solid guy, and a good/funyn guy to have around a poker table. He is gonna be missed.

Hopefully he runs good in heaven Blink Good luck on the tables guys
