Tom Dwan Engaged and Moving to Vegas?

Tags: Tom Dwan
Posted on Tuesday, November 07, 2017 by "T".

It sure took a while before news popped up again concerning Tom "durrrr" Dwan, but luckily on November 2, PokerTube's Pete Manzinelli has updated the poker community via a Youtube video.

While Manz was broadcasting the poker action at King of the Hill III in Pittsburgh last month, he had the opportunity to speak with Brandon Adams regarding Tom Dwan, his favorite subject.

After Adams confirmed that Dwan is not being held against his will somewhere in China, he divulged that Dwan is actually engaged and is moving to Las Vegas. There was also a topic of possible "Tom babies" in the near future.

Daniel Cates on Tom Dwan & the 'Durrrr Challenge': "He Scammed Me"

Tags: Daniel Cates, durrrr challenge, Jungleman12, Tom Dwan
Posted on Thursday, September 04, 2014 by "T".

In 2009, Tom "durrrr" Dwan was at the height of his career and announced the durrrr challenge on an online poker forum to get some action: "I'm making this heads-up challenge to the world. Anyone can accept. Four tables, minimum of $200/$400, and I'll put up $1.5 million to their $500,000. We play 50,000 hands minimum and if they end up a dollar after rake they keep the side money or whatever. So basically, if you and I played and you won a dollar, you would get my $1.5 million and if I won a dollar I would win your $500,000. So I'm giving a million dollars free if anyone thinks they can do it."

Durrrr Challenge Returns in August

Tags: daniel cates, durrrr challenge, full tilt poker, high stakes, jungleman12, tom dwan
Posted on Thursday, August 01, 2013 by "T".

Just about three years ago, Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Daniel "jungleman12" Cates agreed to play 50,000 hands as a part of a heads-up challenge at Full Tilt Poker. The rules were that Dwan would get $500,000 from Cates if he won the challenge, and Cates would get $1,500,000 from Dwan if he won. Now, as you probably already know, the two pros have only played about 19,000 hands and it seems like a lifetime ago when they played last.

Now the good news... according to a forum post by Daniel Cates, the challenge is set to resume in August. Cates wrote that he and Dwan have agreed to play a minimum of 4,000 hands in August and a minimum of 8,000 hands the followings months until the challenge is completed.

Cates is currently holding the lead with a $1,251,059 profit after 19,335 played hands. Besides that, he's been running very good at Full Tilt Poker as of late, so you can't blame him for wanting to complete the challenge and, most probably, get $1.5 million from Tom Dwan.

Apparently APPT Macau didn't only attract big names to come and play poker tournaments, but also some high stakes players who were up for playing cash games. According to what "MacauPro" writes in a big poker forum, Johnny Chan, the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner, won about 11 million Hong King Dollars (US$1.4 million) in different cash games, and players like Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey (took part in the main event as well), Guy Laliberte and Tom Dwan were involved in some big games as well. However, "MacauPro" doesn't seem to know how much they have won or lost. As for Tom Dwan, Poker Portal Asia wrote that Dwan was in Macau but that he had to go back to the US for a few days because he lost his passport.

"When we had dinner with Daniel 'jungleman12' Cates and Haseeb 'INTERNETPOKERS' Qureshi in Austin in late April right after Black Friday, Cates said that he had sold his Full Tilt Poker account balance (I believe for 85% but i can't remember). We then asked him if he sold it to Tom 'durrrr' Dwan, and his response was (paraphrasing) 'Someone like that', and we left it at that." After summarizing 2010's high stakes games online, we have completed a list over 2010's most successful poker players at Full Tilt Poker. It really ended up being the year of the "newcomers" - Daniel "Jungleman12" Cates grabbed the first place with over $5.5 million won and Andreas "Skjervoy" Torbergsen ended up in second place with almost $3,8 million.

As it goes for Brian Townsend, who was a big winner 2009, he ended up losing the most 2010. Townsend was losing almost every single month and for a long time "the battle" for the not-so-glamorous first place on 2010's biggest loser list was between him and the Finnish poker star Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies. However, Townsend ended up losing $4 million dollars and Ziigmund about $2 millions.

Last week the poker gods were really good to Tom "durrrr" Dwan at Full Tilt's highest tables. Well, he played lots of hands against many different opponents almost every single day - a strategy that paid off quite well as he ended up the biggest winner and almost $600k richer.

Durrrr will for sure be one 2010's biggest winners if nothing goes very wrong in the coming weeks. His biggest threat for the first place will probably be the man he's playing the durrrr challenge against, Daniel "jungleman12" Cates.

The challenge between Tom "durrr" Dwan and Daniel "jungleman12" Cates is moving forward slowly lately. However, they managed to play abut 1500 hands the other day and now they have played more than 11,000 hands. Durrrr was down about $800,000 against junglemen when the 1500 hand session started.

Finally the poker gods were on durrrr's side and he ended up winning $180,000 from jungleman12. In other words, durrrr is "only" down about $720k. Let's hope for some more action this week!

Tom "durrrr" Dwan ended up losing over a million dollars last week. This week, however, has started in the best possible way as he won $357,000 last night from playing $300/$600 Pot Limit Omaha against different high rollers.

Unfortunately there is not much going on when it comes to the challenge against jungleman12. Jungleman12 asked durrrr if he wanted to play some hands yesterday, but durrrr "turned him down" and chose to play PLO instead.
